Safeskies 2026 will build on our 2024 theme of ‘Safety collaboration’, taking it to the next level.
As Australia’s only independent aviation/aerospace safety advocate, Safeskies Australia has the unique ability to bring the diverse sectors of industry together – legacy aviation, crewed and uncrewed aviation, and emerging sectors such as space – to collaborate on furthering aviation/aerospace safety.
Safeskies 2026 will give delegates the opportunity to be informed, engaged and involved.

The conference will open with the well-received presentations from aviation agency heads on the safety policy landscape, followed by two days of high-powered discussion as international and Australian experts address key aviation safety issues such as managing airspace, AI and aviation safety, data driving safety, the challenges of regional aviation safety and more.
We are delighted to announce that our keynote speaker at the dinner on Wednesday 20 May will be Pamela Melroy, former deputy administrator of NASA, NASA astronaut, and space shuttle commander. She is also a former colonel in the US Air Force, a veteran of JUST CAUSE and DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM, with over 200 combat and combat support hours, and a USAF test pilot with over 5000 flight hours in 45 different aircraft.
Following the success of the play Turbulence at our last conference, on day two, award-winning company ACT Australia and New Zealand will present another safety theatre scenario. Stay tuned for details!
Safeskies 2026 will be an unmatched opportunity to make new connections and rekindle old ones, as the industry’s best and brightest gather at one of Canberra’s iconic venues: the Hyatt Hotel.

Melroy is one of two women to have commanded a space shuttle and has accumulated over 38 days (924 hours) in space. She served as pilot on two missions, STS-92 in 2000 and STS-112 in 2002, and was mission commander on STS-120 in 2007. All three flights were part of the International Space Station assembly. In keeping with the 2026 theme, ‘Safety collaboration 2.0’, Pamela Melroy will discuss her work with NASA, her space shuttle missions, and her previous experience as a USAF pilot and test pilot, where she logged 5000 flight hours across 45 different aircraft types.
