A national fuel shortage. An ageing aircraft fleet. Staff shortages. Extreme weather. Inadequate or absent critical infrastructure. In 2026, myriad challenges face the regional aviation sector.
Through dramatic storytelling, Outback examines these challenges with a focus on how they affect the people who work in the regional aviation sector. Outback throws ten aviation workers from across the industry – from pilots to ground crew, to management – into a maelstrom of intersecting challenges. With a critical eye on identifying hazards and problem solving, Outback is designed to raise awareness and to foster conversation across all sectors of the industry through storytelling and participatory facilitation and discussion.
ACT Australia & NZ, the team who brought our inaugural safety theatre performance, Turbulence, to life in 2024, bring you Outback, which will open day 2 of Safeskies 2026.
And to close day 2, our Mini Safety Summit, will feature aviation association heads, and airline and OEM safety leaders.
